Wrapping up the first of three planting projects in Elbow Valley outside of Warwick on the Southern Downs of QLD I get to reflect back on the past 6 months. It has been a huge team effort, starting with the identification of plant species for the bioregion, sourcing these plants (some reintroduced rainforest trees) and culminating in the coordination of volunteers to put close to 4,000 trees, shrubs and understorey native plants in the ground for the Enrich Biodiversity Program, at the headwaters of the Murray Darling Basin. The collaboration has been myself (our tribe of kids including our 1 year old daughter and family friends), Andrew O'Dea (landholder, Landcare coordinator and fourth generation cattle farmer) of Kelvin Falls, Alex and Cathy of Condamine Alliance, Damien Doyle of Zarraffas (franchisee, supplier of coffee grounds for our compost and all round good guy) and St Mary's College in Toowoomba (hard working teenagers and teachers!). We are winding up this project, with the last of the plants in the ground and some good Autumn rains predicted. Just the paperwork now to complete ...and maybe a little more watering!
