International Year of Soils.jpg

A couple of weekends ago a made a last minute stand-in as a speaker and panel member at Granite Borders Landcare's Resilience in Farming workshop. I chose to talk about the basics of sustainable landscape management with a focus on soil and water management within an agroforestry model.

What is agroforestry?

According to www.agroforestry.net.au it "is the integration of trees and shrubs into farmining landscapes for conservation and profit."

The audience was kind to me, and even laughed at my jokes! There was much interest in using trees to capture and preserve soil moisture, which has lead to follow on work. I look forward to helping farmers with species selection, planting processess, and forest establishment to add to the resilience of their farms.
