It is the third week of 2016 and much of Australia has been hit by heatwaves. We have spent the past couple of weeks watering young saplings to nurse them through our hot, dry weather. While out in the paddock, I couldn't help but reflect on what World of Trees has achieved over the past year. Here are some stats:
* we planted over 7,000 plants, both native and exotic,
* we planted 15 separate tree species with 4 of these tree species being reintroduced rainforest species to the region. These tree forests became removed from the landscape due to timber harvesting and land clearing. A great achievement,
* we planted 13 separate shrub species, with 2 endangered shrub species to help boost their population,
* we planted 5 separate groundcover species, seed bombs used in the hard to reach areas,
* overall we planted out over 40 acres,
* we processed over 110 cubic metres of compost,
* which means over 400 buckets of spent coffee grounds from cafes were collected, instead of going to landfill,
* we launched the Granite Belt Arboretum Australia as part of the global ex-situ preservation project of the American Coastal Redwoods with an IndieGoGo campaign to help raise funds,
* we organised the import of tissue culture for 400 saplings of the Coast Redwoods and their time in quarantine - 24 months,
* we conducted 5 educational programs and workshops,
* raised 4 children through another year and lived a happy, healthy life! HUGE achievements.
World of Trees is passionate about the environment, families and health. Here's to a Prosperous New Year! Cheers Brett
