According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary 'Arboretum' is a noun and pronounced like this:
ar·bo·re·tum \ˌär-bə-ˈrē-təm\
and the meaning of the word is:
a place where trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants are cultivated for scientific and educational purposes.
We like to think of it as a tree library, a living museum of trees. After much discussion and planning, we have decided to use our skills, knowledge, labour and cash to grow an arboretum in the Granite Belt high altitude region of Queensland, Australia. It is called Granite Belt Arboretum Australia and has a band of voluneers working hard on the details needed to build a legacy such as this. We have a forester, sustainable land manager, an environmental scientist, production managers and crew and a graphic designer working in harmony together to put this plan into action!
The website for Granite Belt Arboretum Australia is www.gbarboretum.com and there is an instagram profile and facebook page too, along with videos published on youtube. All connections can be made from the website. You can click on our logo below to take you directly there!
The most exciting part for me is being the 4th Champion Coast Redwood Grove in the WORLD!!! We will be importing DNA from 2,000 + Year Old Redwoods to be a prime feature of our arboretum. I spent time managing the redwood forests in New Zealand and cannot express the magnificence of these majestic trees. They are the tallest trees in the world and under 5% of them survive in their natural environment. This is truly a global preservation effort!!
